NGC 7023 from last year reprocessed by DSLR-LLRGB
« on: June 13, 2012, 09:03:23 AM »
I recently stumbled on a video tutorial on processing DSLR images using a synthetic luminance created from the RGB, so I decided to give it a try. I took an old image from last summer, which I shot in Die France, in which I wanted to see if an added luminance layer could increase the contrast in the weak dust surrounding the Iris. I think it is a succesfull test, allthough I will need some more practice to master it completely.

High res version, link to the video tutorial, original proces, and DSLR-LLRGB workflow outline for this image on my site

Well that certainly seems to have world like a charm.  I do not recall having seen such large amounts of the real faint dust captured!  Nice reprocess !!!

Thanks David,

I knew the dust was there, and that it was present in the data, but just couldn't get it out of the background. But with this good tutorial on using a synthetic luminance I got myself a great new tool in getting the most out my DSLR.

Thanks guys,

This new approach made the image into a dust galore. I knew there was a lot of dust surrounding the Iris, but I never imagined that is was this much. Only problem it has given me is that I now have the urge to reprocess my entire image archive from the past 1,5 years, which is some 29 images left, ouch. Well, at least it gives me a pasttime with the lousy weather lately.

Very interesting.  I'll have to take a look, for any tips for CCD processing.
