60Da second light
«

Here are two others shot May 11 in MD.
M63 - 13 min (13x60s); ISO 1600; 10" f/3.9 scope
M100 - 27 min (27x60s); ISO 3200; same scope
Tracking was giving me some problems so had to limit sub exposures.

John you need to start doing longer exposures I see know difference in your images using 60 sec subs. You have the gear to go longer if you need help getting it figured out we are here to help

Thanks Les, yes a little more depth will help. In order to do that I still have some issues with polar alignment to work out. Next time out should do the trick.

It looks like you have a winner with the 60Da. Excellent, but I agree you need more data. Are you doing guided imaging?

Hi Dave, thanks!
Yes, I'm guiding through my 40mm finder using the Orion Starshoot and PHD guiding. I've had some guiding issues related to poor 2-Star alignment and/or poor polar alignment. But I have a plan to better both. I had to throw out maybe 10-20% of my subs and can still see a little streaking. But the camera seems to be a performer. I am real happy with is so far.

very cool John, glad to see you got some skies.
Keep working on the PA, and also especially with the 10" balance will play havoc with long exposures. Important to make sure and apply a slight east heavy bias on your balance on RA. You may also find it helps in DEC balance to swing the focuser straight down. Make sure that the finder is very secure in it's bracket and all is tight, flexure can be hard to identify and ruin many exposures

John if you art throwing out 10-20% of your 60 second exposures, something pretty seriously wrong is going on. You should be able to image unguided with only 60 second exposures at those focal lengths and that mount. Could you write out your imaging session steps so we can help see what is going wrong.
Glad you are happy with the camera!!!

Thanks guys for the helpful advice. I think I already know what corrective action I need to take and if that doesn't work we can pursue this further.
Thanks again,
John
